born on 5.7.1941 in Altaussee, father killed in action in 1943, 1951-1955 grammar school and boarding school of the Sisters of the Cross in Gmunden, upper secondary school at the private grammar school in Bad Aussee, from January 1958 secondary school in Graz, 1959 Matura and first literary appearance, from 1959 interpreting studies (English, Turkish) at the University of Graz, from May 1960 nine-month study visit to Erzurum, from 1961 further interpreting studies (now Turkish and Hungarian), diploma in Turkish in 1963, since the summer semester of 1963, studied Hungarian in Debrecen for a year, 1964 graduated as a certified translator, 1964-66 studied Oriental Studies in Vienna, 1965/66 research assistant, 1965 invitation to the "Innsbruck Youth Culture Week", 1965 and 1966 trips to Greece and Turkey, 1966 participation in the "Literary Colloquium" in Berlin, since September 1966 full-time writer and translator, 1968 success with the "Klosterschule", 1971-1977 first marriage, 1.12.1973 birth of son Florian Anastasius Grün, March 1978 moves with Florian to an apartment in Vienna-Landstraße - in summer in Altaussee, after further stays abroad 1987 poet in residence at Washington University in St. Louis, 1988 remarriage, 1990 poetry lecture in Munich, 1997/98 juror at the Klagenfurt "Ingeborg Bachmann Competition", gives up the apartment in Vienna, lives in Altaussee.

Acquisition: Purchase by the Province of Styria in December 2005, donation to the Nabl Institute in January 2006. All works and materials added during the author's lifetime were also acquired, so that the estate is continuously growing in all areas.
