Mühringer Doris
Born on 18.9.1920 in Graz, died on 26.5.2009 in Vienna. Writer and translator; childhood in Graz, began writing at the age of seven; moved to Vienna in 1931; studied German literature and art history; fled to Salzburg in 1945, brought back to Vienna by Hans Weigel in 1954, published in his anthology "Stimmen der Gegenwart" (1954); worked as an editor and translator from English for Paul Zsolnay-Verlag, among others; reading and lecture tour of the USA in 1969; worked as a freelance writer and translator in Vienna; member of the Austrian P.E.N. Club, Literaturkreis Podium and the international authors' association "Kogge".Club, Literaturkreis Podium and the international authors' association "Kogge".
Awards include: Georg Trakl Prize (1954), Poetry Prize of the Neue Deutsche Hefte (1956), Promotion Prize of the City of Vienna (1961), Promotion Prize of the City of Graz (1973), State Scholarship for Literature (1976), Literature Prize of the Province of Styria (1985), Austrian State Prize for Children's and Youth Literature (2001).
