Joseph Schister
Joseph Schister (pseudonyms: Barbara Lechner, Schne., Schnepf, JoSchi, -er, Adi Rausch), born on 18.8.1921 in Löffelbach near Hartberg (Styria), died on 11.8.1988 in Graz. Eldest of four children in a family of mountain farmers, attended primary and secondary school, apprentice bricklayer from 1938, severe paralysis in 1937 as a result of an accident at work; attended courses at the training institute for the disabled in Graz-Andritz and the commercial academy; deployed to the Thalerhof air base from 1941-1945, first literary attempts, stories and dialect poems appear; Friendly relationship with Paul Anton Keller; worked as a freelance writer from 1945, published the magazine "Lustige Blätter" in 1947 and 1948 together with Manfred Csernik and the Striny couple under the pseudonym "Joschi"; contributed to radio from 1947, founded his own publishing house, married Elisabeth Trojer in 1948; "Bergheimatverlag" publishing house from 1949, published Heimatroman booklets until 1969, which sold well.
