Franz Weinzettl
Born on 15.7.1955 in Feldbach, primary and secondary school in Bad Gleichenberg, Matura 1973 at the BORG Bad Radkersburg, then studied German and history in Graz, active in literature since the mid-1970s, first publications in the Graz literary magazine "manuskripte" from 1976 through Peter Handke, in whose environment Weinzettl is still aesthetically located today, in 1979 Handke passes on half of the Franz Kafka Prize awarded to him to Franz Weinzettl. In 1983 he published his debut story "Auf halber Höhe", which was celebrated by critics as a new form of Bildungsroman, and has been a freelance writer ever since. 10 books, mainly prose, have been published to date, including "Der Jahreskreis der Anna Neuherz" (1988), "Abseits, auf den Gleisen" (2008) and most recently "An der Erde Herz geschmiegt" (2015), in which he develops something like a poetics of the unspectacular, but also of thresholds. He has received numerous awards for his writing, including the Styrian Literature Prize (1990), the manuskripte Prize (1997), the Hermann Lenz Prize (2005) and most recently the Rotahorn Literature Prize (2015). In addition to writing, he has trained in client-centred psychotherapy, has worked as a psychotherapist for the organization "Rettet das Kind" and in private practice since 1997, and lives as a writer and psychotherapist in Graz and Gossendorf.

With the exception of a few typescripts in the Salzburg Literature Archive, the Weinzettl estate is complete and contains versions and materials for all published works (in the case of "Der Jahreskreis der Anna Neuherz", these supplement the versions already purchased for the Nabl Institute in 1989, see inventory overview - individual manuscripts) as well as a few unpublished texts, including from the early period, and a large box with correspondence (including extensive bundles of letters from authors such as Peter Handke, Walter Kappacher, Alfred Kolleritsch, Jürg Laederach and Hermann Lenz) and another with notebooks, 17 folders with materials (anthology contributions, speeches, reading announcements, correspondence in connection with publications and events, reviews, etc.) as well as numerous photo albums on prose writers.There are also photos of author friends, self-portraits and portraits of other photographers by Franz Weinzettl and dedication copies of the aforementioned author friends from the author's library.
