Benndorf Wolfgang (Guttenbrunner Collection)
Born on 21.5.1901 in Vienna, died on 27.4.1959 in Graz. Son of the physicist Hans Benndorf, studied philosophy and history in Graz, Munich and Bonn, graduated in 1924. Librarian at the Klagenfurt Study Library, then at Graz University Library. Dismissed in 1938 as an avowed anti-fascist at the instigation of the Nazi Students' Union and banned from publishing, he took over the management of the university library in 1945, a position he held until his retirement in 1953. Benndorf emerged as a poet and translator under the pseudonym Peter Welf.
