Potpeschnigg Luise
Luise Holtei (real name: Aloisia Potpeschnigg, also: Anna Potpeschnig, Luise Potpetschnig, Potpetschnigg-Holtei), born on 10.12.1876 in Graz [father unknown, mother uncertain, arbitrary assignment of surname], died on 12.11.1965 in Vienna [according to entry in the records of the Graz parish church]. Art historian and Kleist researcher. Changed her name in 1918. Graduated with honors from the teacher training college in 1896, worked as an assistant and later as a specialist teacher in Stainz, Graz and Vienna. From 1904 onwards, academic interest in art didactics; studied under Josef Strzygowski at the Institute of Art History at the University of Vienna and from around 1915 was head of the education department there; 1928 doctorate with a thesis on The development of the mass personality in the visual arts. An attempt based on observations of children.
Works include: Aus der Kindheit der bildenden Kunst (1912), Einführung in die Betrachtung von Werken der bildenden Kunst (1915, further editions: 1923, 1925), as well as essays and contributions, including "Planmäßige Wesensforschung in der Dichtkunst. Meyer-Benfey's study of Kleist's Prince Frederick of Homburg arranged and supplemented according to Strzygowski". In: Neue Jahrbücher 40 (1917), H. 5, pp. 209-234.
