Hannelore Valencak
Born on 23.1.1929 in Donawitz (Styria), died on 9.4.2004 in Vienna. The only child of a working-class family, attended school in Kapfenberg and Bruck an der Mur, studied physics at the University of Graz, graduated in 1954, worked as a metallurgist in Kapfenberg; active as a writer since the 1950s; publications in anthologies, including Hans Weigel's "Stimmen der Gegenwart" (1953, 1954) and Rudolf Felmayer's "Tür an Tür" (1955); in 1961, the first collection of stories Morgen werden wir es wissen and the novel Die Höhlen Noahs are published; moves to Vienna in 1962, works as a patent clerk; from 1966, works as a consultant instead of full-time professional work; Lives as a freelance writer from 1975; in addition to novels dealing with the social role and situation of women, has written numerous books for young people; the strongly autobiographical novel Vorhof zur Wirklichkeit was published in 1972; has received numerous awards (including the Georg Trakl Prize). (including the Georg Trakl Prize for Poetry in 1954 and the City of Graz Poetry Prize in 1956), Austrian State Prize for Children's Books in 1977.
